The loss of Amy Jane

On behalf of all at McBride Fishing Company, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation of the magnificent effort of the rescue services on the occasion of the sinking of our crabber “Amy Jane” on the 7th of October last.

We are most appreciative of the excellent co-ordination of the operation by Belfast Coastguard and our local Malin Head Coastguard and, of course, the input of the RNLI crews from Portrush and Lough Swilly lifeboats, who were at the scene very rapidly, was to the very high standard we now take for granted.  The Skipper and crew of the “Amy Jane” were air-lifted by Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 118, based in Sligo and transferred to Altnagelvin hospital where, I am happy to say, they were well looked after and given a clean bill of health!

It is at times like this we realise how vital our rescue services are; words do not do them justice but I hope they will go some way to showing our gratitude on this occasion.  Thanks to everyone involved!
